Aim
The aim of this project is to develop a method to isolate alkyllead compounds from environmental samples based on distillation. Such a technique is currently used for isolation and enrichment of methylmercury from various types of environmental samples. If applications could be expanded for the enrichment of alkyllead species as well, it would, in principle be possible to perform "multielement speciation". An other reason for developing a distillation procedure for alkyllead species stems from the need to have different enrichment procedures available for quality assurance.
Conduction
The group has, at present, available enrichment procedures based on supercritical fluid extraction and on conventional liquid-liquid extraction. During the podject you should compare results from the distillation procedure with at least one of the above mentioned techniques. Identification of the alkyllead species will be performed by GC-QTAAS which is an established technique within the group. Later it would be possible to detect both Pb and Hg species simultaneously.
